Homemade Fabric Softener

posted Feb 28, 2012 22:09:37 by KristinBensch
Fabric Softener #1

6 Cups Hot Water (boiling works best)
3 Cups Vinegar
2 Cups Suave Refreshing Waterfall Conditioner (or other favorite scent)
(I actually used the whole regular sized bottle, which is over 2 cups. Personal preference.)

Mix conditioner and boiling water well. Stir until conditioner is completely dissolved.
Add vinegar and mix well.
Store in a large container. (Empty fabric softener container, empty large vinegar bottle, etc.)
Pour into fabric softener spot in your washer, then wash. (It says use 2 Tbsp, however I just use a cap full as I am using an old fabric softener bottle. Can be used in a Downy ball as well.)

Note: This is my favorite recipe and the one I use. But I have tried the ones below as well.

Fabric Softner #2

1 Cup Baking Soda
1 Cup White Vinegar
2 Cups Hot Water

Mix 1 cup baking soda with 2 cups hot water. Stir until powder is well mixed. (Will not fully dissolve.)
Add 1 cup white vinegar, they will react and bubble. Stir until well combined.
You can add essential oil scent of your choice if you like as well.
Store in empty bottle or jar.
Add ΒΌ Cup to your rinse cycle. I shake mine a little before using. Be forwarded it will fizz when you do this. (Either in downy ball or fabric softer spot on your washer)

Note: If you have a front loading washer as I do this one is harder to use as the baking soda doesn't fully dissolve. I have noticed residue in my fabric softener drawer when I use this. However it has not seemed to cause any problems, just giving the info.

Fabric Softener #3 (larger batch of above)
1 Cup Baking Soda
6 Cups White Vinegar
8 Cups Water
10-15 Drops essential oil (Optional)
1 Gallon Empty Container

First add baking soda to plastic container.
Next add 1 cup of water to start with.
Slowly add the vinegar to the bottle as the vinegar and baking soda will start to fizz.
Then add the rest of the water swirling around and cover venting the top a few times.
Last add the essential oil if you choose.
Add 1 cup in your final rinse cycle, but give bottle a good shake to stir up oils. (Again can be used in downy ball or fabric softener spot in washer. )
